What is recorded here

No font is complete, but the broken one in Rathbeggan still points to the church that disappeared around it. Its shallow basin survives at the bottom of a rectangular stone, no deeper than a child's palm, yet wide enough to hold water for a baby's first naming. The graveyard keeps what the building lost: a little vessel, damaged but still recognisable, waiting beside the place where people once brought their youngest into the world.
Within the graveyard attached to the site of Rathbeggan parish church (ME044-030----). The bottom of a rectangular font (ext. dim. 0.63m; H 0.45m) with the shallow remains of a basin (diam. 0.39m; surviving D 5cm) is in the graveyard. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 7 April, 2015
