Fulacht fia in Raheen Oughter

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

In low-lying marshy ground c. 60m to the N of a stream. On inspection in October 1982 this fulacht fia consisted of two low mounds, c. 1m apart, composed of black earth and burnt stone. The N mound (4.7m E-W; 2.6m N-S; H 0.5m) was better preserved than the S one (3.5m E-W; 1.8m N-S; H 0.3m). Current OSi aerial photographic imagery indicates that a house now occupies this site. Two other fulachta fia lay c. 20m to the S (GA105-175001-) and c. 75m to the SW (GA105-175001-) respectively. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 27 November 2019
