Quarry in Ballyclancahill

On the summit of a hill named Knockardnagowel. Described by Westropp (1913, 257-8) as a ‘conspicuous object from the north and the south, consisting of two great parallel mounds over the saddle of the hill’. The mounds were aligned N-S with slightly lower ground between them giving it the appearance of an ‘old wide embanked road’ (ibid.). This is a disused quarry. The mounds are spoil mounds thrown up to the E and W of a quarry strip (Wth c. 16m) which runs roughly N-S across the summit of the hill.
