What is recorded here

Indicated is a half-hidden earthen ring in County Kerry, its low bank curving beside a farm road while the missing northern edge disappears under grass and memory. The surviving arc faces south toward the Laune valley, large enough to hold a household, a herd, or a story about the kind of person who lived there. Trees planted outside the bank still trace its shape, as if the land remembered the circle long after the name faded.

In pasture, on a S-facing slope, overlooking the valley of the Laune River. An arc (C 54m E-W) of a low earthen bank (Wth 6.2m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 0.65m) E-W abuts the S side of a farm road and appears to be the S half of a circular enclosure (diam. c. 50m) indicated on the 1846 OS 6-inch map. Mature trees, planted c. 5m out from the base of the bank, respect it. The trees are in turn skirted by a fence E-SE and SW-W and by a high wall SE-SW. The interior is level and clear of overgrowth. This is the rath which was recorded in the 1840s as being situated 'five chains' to the S of Pallis Castle (OSNB, Aghadoe, no. 2, 19). Pallis Castle (KE065-019----) is c. 70m to the N.
