Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Lewis, Callanish as Avenue (neolithic), Chambered Cairn (neolithic), Stone Circle (neolithic) - (bronze Age), Stone Row(s) (neolithic) - (bronze Age). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Neolithic stone circle and chambered cairn, with later Bronze Age additions. Significance lies in its complex ritual landscape and as one of the most important prehistoric sites in the Outer Hebrides.
