Black Tower, Record Tower, Wardrobe Tower: one circular mass at the southeast corner of Dublin Castle, built around 1228 and re-roofed around 1566. Three storeys tall, it still stands in modified form, dressed later with battlements added in 1819. Its many names suggest a life of changing uses, perhaps storing records, cloth, tools or secrets for the castle beside it.

Dublin Castle: Stands at the SE corner of Dublin Castle. Variously known as the 'Record Tower', the' Black Tower' and the 'Wardrobe Tower'. Under construction c. 1228; restored and re roofed c. 1566. It is a massive circular tower, three storeys high. Battlements were added in 1819 (FMD map, 1978, A3). Extant in modified form 2002 (Lynch and Manning 2001, 169-204; Clarke 2002, 22).
