Enclosure in Mullaghnameely

Enclosure

What is recorded here

Mullaghnameely holds a ghost name: an old fort that vanished or never existed, while a buried boundary marker waits beneath the soil. The townland sits just north of Fenagh, carrying a forgotten shape in its very words. Perhaps people stopped visiting the fort and kept only the name, or perhaps the name itself built the fort in every mind that repeated it. Either way, the place still points toward what it lost.
There is a reference (OS Name Books, No. 83, 403) to an old fort in the townland of Mullaghnameely) just N of Fenagh but no fort is known within the townland, unless (LE025-085----), which is incorporated in the towland boundary at N, was intended.
