What is recorded here

Mortlestown holds two standing stones in open pasture, thirty metres apart, yet neither appears on historic maps. Tom Fox of Teagasc identified the first in 2009, forcing a distinction between what surveying missed and what memory preserved. The second waited twenty metres east, visible only through satellite imagery before human eyes gave it shape. Forgetting did not remove them; it merely stopped asking whether they belonged to the living world.
