Beneath a cottage east of the Monasterboice graveyard gateway, a man-made passage dips four or five feet into the earth. Keenan measured that shallow depth in 1945, but the entrance has vanished, leaving only the monastic enclosure above to hint at what sleeps below. Perhaps monks dug it for storage, flight or prayer, yet the closed passage denies certainty and keeps its purpose locked in darkness.

Situated beneath a cottage E of the gateway to Monasterboice graveyard, and within the monastic enclosure (LH021-062001-). It is described by Keenan (1945, 52) as being '4 or 5 ft deep' (c. 1.2 - 1.5m). It is now inaccessible.
