Dummy Battery is a lost fort beside the Medway, built in 1867 to point heavy guns at the river entrance. It changed names, doubled its purpose, and still stands only in fragments because men believed the water needed a visible guard. The battery was demolished in 1962, yet its concrete and memory remain scattered across the Grain shoreline.
