Rathnabart

Rathnabart is a broad oval enclosure on the low hills of north Mayo where tradition places a gallows inside the grassy ring, marking the assembly ground for Tirawley. Its stony bank still stands two metres high at the north-east, guarding a damp interior where a wet pool collects rain and a faint outer ridge dissolves into modern fields. The name survives on old survey maps, but the purpose blends market, judgement and memory in one quiet hill, leaving the gallows as much a warning as a fact.
