Rathleenan

Rathleenan was a circular rath on a Gortaneden ridge, visible on maps from 1838 to 1922, but agricultural reclamation erased it and its surrounding boundaries. A hundred metres south, another enclosure still stands, making the empty ridge feel less like forgotten land and more like a hole punched through the village’s memory. The missing ringfort does not fade quietly; it keeps its shape in the absence, forcing whoever walks past to imagine the bank, ditch and household that once held the hill.
