Rathbeg

Archaeological place

What is recorded here

Four ringforts cluster within a few hundred metres above Killala Bay, proving this corner of north Mayo supported dense early settlement rather than a single isolated farm. Rathbeg, the smallest at 21 metres across, keeps its name and shape through a slumped bank, a stone-faced scarp, and a mysterious lower terrace appended to its south. A modern fence still cuts across the interior, dividing the ancient space as if human boundaries never fully released the land.
Rathbeg is recorded as a archaeological place in County Mayo. Its open map record supplies this location and any linked names or public references.
