What is recorded here
Underground chambers in Rahard, rahard East and rahard West bypass the usual rath, suggesting purpose beyond display. They may have served storage, refuge or ritual, depending on the season and the danger above. Build them as deliberate, not abandoned, and the absence of a rath stops sounding like a mistake.
‘Underground chambers’ unaccompanied by a rath (Tighe 1802, 628; Anon. 1850-51).
