What is recorded here
Six underground chambers once opened beneath a Cork hillock, now vanished under tillage and memory. Build a new house there and the dead architecture may reappear through the floor tiles, waiting for someone to knock.
In tillage, atop hillock, on site of possible ringfort (CO082-097----). According to local information, six underground chambers were discovered here in the past. No visible surface trace.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
