Castlemasters

In farmyard, 1-storey remains of house which, according to local information, stood to three storeys. Front elevation (N) 6 bays wide and 1 bay deep; interior has remains of large fireplace with brick-domed oven (int. diam. 0.65m). Stone-built lean-to addition to rear, which contains disused milking parlour. Inscribed stone (very worn) near house reads 'Jasper/Masters Esq/May 17 1777'; according to local information second inscribed stone from house had date of '1723' but this is now lost. Immediately E of Carrignacurra castle (CO081-017----). According to Tony Miller (August 2018), following monitoring adjacent to this site it is clear that all traces of this house are gone. Already in a state of ruin at the time of the survey, it fell completely in the 1990s. The stone was cleared away. The carved stone mentioned in the description was kept on display but stolen soon after from the farmyard.
