Man-made underground passage in Curraheen (trughanacmy By.)

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

Under Curraheen, a low drystone passage with lintel roofs runs toward a quarry, waiting for someone brave enough to crawl through darkness and emerge beside scarred earth.
A letter in the SMR file for KE037-053---- described this Man-made underground passage which was entered c. 18m SSW of a quarry. The Man-made underground passage ran up to the edge of the quarry at which point the landowner had caused a capstone to be exposed while digging with a mechanical excavator. The Man-made underground passage was drystone built, roofed with lintels and rather low. An accompanying location map shows this Man-made underground passage to be the same as that which is entered in the Register of Historic Monuments (SMR File).

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
