What is recorded here

The area indicated was inspected but no surface trace of a Man-made underground passage could be found. The entire area has been reclaimed and many of the field fences have been removed. (See field inspection report - diary CM18, 49-50, SMR file). The source for this Man-made underground passage is given in the SMR file as Capt. D.B. O'Connell's (1939, 9). An extract from the 'Minutes of the Co. Kerry Field Club' (1941) is also included in the SMR file and contains a detailed description of the Man-made underground passage. Its location is marked on Capt. O'Connell's map in the Dept. of Archaeology, UCC. A letter and an extract from OS 6-inch map 37, which are included in the SMR file for this record, relate to a Man-made underground passage (KE037-083---) which is further to the NE of where Captain O'Connell's Man-made underground passage was marked.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
