What is recorded here
Five rectangular huts and one circular companion still mark the rushy slope of Leahan Mountain, their low drystone walls barely rising above the heather. They faced the sea and Slieve League, catching light and shelter in a cramped cluster that suggests busy, crowded life rather than lonely retreat. The worst storm would have driven people into the smallest box, forcing them to share heat, breath and silence until dawn.
In poorly drained rushy covered mountain pasture, in small river valley, on the SE facing slope of Leahan Mountain with views of the sea to the S and Slieve League to the W. Situated on heather covered rough pasture overlooking mountain stream to SW and W. One of five conjoined rectangular shaped huts orientated on a NE-SW line (DG089-026017-021) with a conjoined circular hut site (DG089-026015-) 10m to SW and rectangular hut site (DG 089-026016-) 10m to S. The fifth hut site at the NE of five conjoined hut sites consists of a square-shaped area (int. dims. 2.4m x 2.35m; wall T 0.9m; H 0.4m) defined by a low heather covered drystone wall which survives two to four courses high with no clear entrance feature visible. Located in an area of a dense concentration of hut sites which appear to make up a clustered settlement (DG089-026001/021).
