Elizabeth Duddel lies beneath a worn slab inside the west doorway of Loughcrew church, marked with children beside her name and dated 7 November 1676. The tower door may have closed above them while the valley continued its ordinary business of birth, marriage and death. Her stones still occupy the threshold where the living enter, forcing every visitor to step across the boundary between memory and forgetting.

On the ground inside the W doorway of the residential tower at the W end of the parish church of Loughcrew (ME015-027----) is the graveslab (dims c. 1.5m x 0.8m) of Elizabeth Duddel dated 1676 with an inscription in false relief (Moore c. 1975, 13). The inscription reads: HERE _IETH THE BOD / YE OF MRS ELIZ_BE__ DVDD / EL WI_ _ TO / _ _ _ HARD D _ _ _EL OF LOGH C / REW WITH HER CH / ILDREN SHE DI / ED THE 7 OF NO / VEMBER AN DOM / 1676 See the attached image.
