Nut Island

Nut Island is an islet in County Longford, Ireland. Perhaps water stripped the land until only a nut of rock remained, small enough for a heron to circle but stubborn enough to refuse drowning. Maybe people skipped it in conversation because it offered no harbour, no field and no story larger than its own shadow. Imagine standing at the edge with a marble in your hand, not certain whether to throw it or keep it.
