What is recorded here
Embanked enclosure is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Lissaneaville, County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupies the crest of a south-facing slope on a low ridge and presents a circular grass-covered area nearly fifty-seven metres across. An earthen bank surrounds most of the circle, while a field bank and ditch reduce the southern edge to a shallow scarp. Two fosses and an outer bank mark the eastern and western sides, leaving a narrow entrance in the inner bank at the north-west.
At the crest of the S-facing slope of a low WNW-ESE ridge. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 57.2m E-W; c. 55m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 4.6-5.1m; int. H 0.2-0.7m; ext. H 0.8-1.3m) WSW-N-ESE which is reduced to a scarp (H 0.2m) S of an overlying E-W field bank and ditch. There is a rounded fosse (Wth of top 6m; Wth of base 1.6m; D 0.25m) ENE-ESE and a fosse (Wth of top 8m; Wth of base 2.6m; D 1m) and outer bank (Wth 3.6m; H 0.15m) WSW-NNW. The entrance in the inner bank (Wth 3.4m) is at NNW.
