Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Lisheen

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Lisheen, County Clare: a circular earthworks, about forty metres across, set on a south-east facing slope now lost under pasture. Its bank and ditch have vanished from ordinary sight but still mark the soil when drought whitens the grass, revealing the hidden shape. People may have lived there, loved there, and been forgotten; the land keeps the circle even when memory does not.
On a SE-facing slope in pasture. A circular enclosure (diam. c. 40m) defined by a bank and fosse visible as a parch mark on Digital Globe (2011-2013). Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 10 Mary 2021
