Glin Castle is a Georgian country house on the River Shannon that replaced a tower house attacked during the Desmond Rebellions and later abandoned. John Bateman FitzGerald built the new home in the 1780s with Margaretta Maria Fraunceis Gwyn's dowry after seven centuries of FitzGerald occupancy. The family still lives there, having bought it back from auction in 2015 to keep it from leaving their hands.
