Structure

A band (Wth 4.9m; D 0.59m) of irregularly laid light brushwood and twigs in the drain face. Several pieces are in upright positions, largely as a result of machine disturbance. The twigs are concentrated in an area towards the N end of the site. Metal-cut toolmarks are apparent on a number of pieces and a perforated, wooden shaft (92E148:31) is also recorded in a vertical setting. Wood species include willow, birch, hazel, oak and alder. The wood is dispersed across a number of peat strata and does not represent a single-period deposit. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
