Structure

A sparse arrangement (Wth 3.8m; D 0.46m) of brushwood and roundwoods in the drain face. Much of the wood is orientated N-S but a distinct structure cannot be discerned. The wood is concentrated towards the centre of the spread (Wth 1m min.). Small concentrations of twigs are found in the vicinity of the roundwoods. Wood species include willow, oak and hazel. The site lies in moderately humified Sphagnum peat containing some rootlets. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
