Structure

A loose arrangement (Wth 1.74m; D 0.35m) of brushwood (diam. 0.019-0.042m) and a single, light roundwood. The site appears to be orientated NW-SE direction and contains longitudinal and transverse components although a distinct structure is not evident. A number of pieces are cut to chisel and wedge points. The wood is spread across two peat strata and is unlikely to be contemporary. The lower layer is well-humified but slightly more so than the upper layer; both layers are composed of Sphagnum peat with some fibrous roots. The lower layer also contains some Eriophorum. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
