Structure

A dispersed arrangement (Wth 2.48m; D 0.43m) of mixed brushwood and a roundwood in the drain face. While the wood tends to be orientated N-S but does not form a coherent structure. A metal-cut wedge point is noted on the roundwood. Wood species identified include birch, alder and hazel. The site crosses a number of peat strata and the components are unlikely to be contemporary. A piece of worked brushwood is noted on an adjacent field surface. It is not certain if this is related to the feature in the drain face. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
