What is recorded here

Indicated is a crannog in Lecarrow (roscommon By.), County Roscommon, Ireland. The site appears as an oval overgrown area of earth and stone near the southeast angle of Lough Elia, marked on the 1837 and 1909 Ordnance Survey maps as being about twenty-five metres from the southern shore. A dug-out canoe discovered in 1897 may have come from this location. Another crannog lies approximately two hundred and fifty metres to the northwest.

Near the SE angle of triangular triangular Lough Elia (dims. c. 500m N-S; c. 200m E-W at N to c. 450m E-W at S), and indicated on the 1837 and 1909 eds of the OS 6-inch map as being c. 25m from the S shore. This is an oval overgrown area (dims. 39m E-W; 30m N-S) of earth and stone (H 0.5m) with no evidence of artificial construction on the S shore of the lake, but the dug-out canoe discovered in 1897 may be from near this site (Anon. 1897, 431).
