What is recorded here

Indicated is a lost crannog in County Mayo, Ireland, where a small circular island once rose from an unnamed lake straddling Knockaunacat and Lisanny. The lake vanished under modern drainage, leaving behind only unstable marsh and a map memory of a place people may have lived, feared, or forgotten. What remains is a shape in absent water, resisting explanation but refusing to release its story.

A small circular island (diam. c. 15m) is shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map in middle of an unnamed lake which straddles the townland boundary between Knockaunacat and Lisanny. It is not shown on later map editions where reduced lake levels are evident. Modern drainage schemes have reduced the lake to an expanse of marsh ground, too wet and unstable to allow inspection.
