What is recorded here
None of the grave markers predate 1700, a deliberate choice by Quakers who rejected elaborate stones as worldly vanity. That austerity hides the true age of the ground, which holds William Edmundson, the first known member of the Society of Friends to settle in Ireland. He travelled from Scotland through Virginia and Mountmellick before reaching Rosenallis in 1659, and he died here in 1712. The plain wall and quiet graves preserve a community that shaped the Leinster midlands long before elaborate memorials became common.
Burial Ground is recorded as a archaeological place in County Laois. Its open map record supplies this location and any linked names or public references.
