Kiln

Two corn-drying kilns, described as ovens, were built into the mound of Tomb 12. This feature is E of the passage of the tomb and consists of a fire-pit (diam. 1m; D 0.43m) with a fire-reddened base connected by a flue (L 2m; Wth 1m; D 0.2m) extending SW to a chamber (dims 2.25m x 1.5m) outlined by a single course of stones. No carbonised grain or other evidence of use was recovered, but the ovens post-dated the levelling of the passage tomb mound which occurred in the first millennium AD. They are not conserved.
