Knockshanbally holds a burnt mound hidden beneath modern lawn, where hot stones and charcoal still wait beside a stream. Men digging a tree pit struck the ancient heat, paused, and called an archaeologist before burying the discovery again. The mound vanished under grass and forgetfulness, but the stones remember the violence of making water boil.

In garden of modern house, located close to a stream. A concentration of burnt stones and charcoal fragments were noted when a pit was dug for tree-planting in the garden of a newly-constructed house. The landowner notified an archaeologist who examined the site and confirmed the archaeological significance of the remains. No above ground evidence of a mound was visible and the full extent of the burnt material could not be determined. The pit was backfilled and the location is now under lawn.
