Gallán was a standing stone in County Cork pasture, removed after Hartnett measured its irregular body at 38 inches high and 108 inches around in 1939. It stood on a south-facing slope where sunlight would have raked across rough stone and shadowed the grass at the base. People may have passed it without knowing it marked memory, or they may have touched it because touch makes the world return something.
