Graveyard in Knockmore

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Knockmore in County Sligo carries a local story about a graveyard beside a possible church, yet no grave, marker or boundary remains visible. The earth may have swallowed the deaths and the people may have forgotten the names, leaving only a shape in the landscape. What is certain is that the place still belongs to memory, not proof.
There is a local tradition of a graveyard associated with the possible church (SL041-048001-) at Knockmore. However there are no visible remains of any graveyard here and no local information could be found on its existence during a site inspection in 2003. Compiled by: Archaeological Survey Unit, UCC with revisions by Patrick F. O'Donovan and Paul Walsh Date of upload: 20 June 2011

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
