Field boundary in Knockanbaun

Field boundary

What is recorded here

Field boundary in Knockanbaun is a field boundary in Knockanbaun, County Sligo, Ireland. The 1995 RMP listed it as a pre-bog field wall, although the source of that entry was unknown and no 1990s field report was on file. A 2014 inspection found no trace at its listed position, and dense trees and forest litter prevented a wider search. The wall was probably damaged by forestry works, but its exact location remains unknown.
Within a coniferous plantation. To W ground falls away into the Easkey River valley. There is another field boundary (SL017-076----) c. 150m to E and a portal tomb (SL017-040----) c. 130m to NE. This record was listed in the RMP (1995) as ‘field wall –pre-bog’: the source of this record is unknown and there is no field report from the 1990’s on file. In the RMP (1995) the location was recorded as IG 140100 330680 (equating with ITM 540064 830687), placing it approximately 20m S of an E-W road. The area was inspected in 2014. No trace of the field wall was found at the location of the RMP (1995) co-ordinates. The density of the trees and forest litter made a more wide-ranging inspection impossible. It is likely that the wall was damaged by forestry works; its exact location remains unknown. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 15 August 2014
