What is recorded here

Knock holds a small rectangular stone with one worn basin beside a high cross. People may have poured water across it or marked it for prayer, while the cross watched the graveyard edge. The stone no longer explains itself, but it still invites that much imagination.

There is a small, rectangular bullaun stone (dims 0.43m x 0.42m; H 0.25m) with a single basin (dims 0.25-0.27m; D 0.1m) beside the head of a high cross (ME012-033002-) at the NE angle of the graveyard (ME012-033001-). Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 18 August, 2014

This bullaun stone, associated with a high cross in a graveyard, likely dates to the early medieval period (5th–11th centuries AD) and may have been used for ritual Christian purposes, such as baptisms or the preparation of holy water. Such stones often held spiritual significance and were integrated into ecclesiastical sites.
