Half the chamber is missing, leaving a tall sandstone wall standing guard inside a children’s burial mound. Slabs and loose stones still scatter the ground, perhaps fragments of a box cist or cairn now forgotten by surveyors. The absence becomes the shape: a room opened upward, still holding what it was set to keep.

Located within children’s burial ground (CL027-024001-) which forms a low mound. Not depicted on any OS historic mapping. According to Westropp (1902-04, 111), ‘The side of an undoubted dolmen stands in a disused burial place for children…….It tapers upwards from 9 feet to 5 feet 9 inches long, and is 3 feet 8 inches high and 16 inches thick, of good sandstone, and belonged, the old people say, to a box cist’. Westropp (ibid.) also indicates that ‘three other slabs lie in the grove’. Potential components of this monument still exist within the children’s burial ground and consist of a large, flat slab of limestone (L 1.25m; Wth 0.85m; T 0.2m) which is covered in mature green mosses around the edges and is weathered on the upper surface. A sandstone bullaun stone (CL027-024003-) is resting on top of this slab at the N end. A second similar stone (L 0.85m; Wth 0.75m; T 0.1m) is located 5.35m to NW. It has split from another piece of flat stone that is partially hidden under the sod, indicating that it was part of a larger slab. The edge of a third slab is protruding from the surface of the ground to the immediate E. A fourth flag stone is situated c. 2.5m to E of the second flag. Other small angular and rounded boulders protrude from surface of the children’s burial ground and may be associated with it or may derive from a former cairn around the megalithic structure.
