Fulacht fia in Killaspy

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

Heated water, drowned fire, and repeated labour built the Killaspy fulacht fia beside its stream. The completed mound still stands fifteen metres long, covered in trees and scattered with blacked stones that record every violent quench. People may have cooked, cleaned, or simply played with heat and water before forgetting the address. The basin remains open toward the water, waiting for hands busy enough to remember what the stones already know.
Adjacent to a stream in a small wooded area. A typical horsehoe-shaped mound (dims. 11.1m N-S; 15m E-W; H 1.5m) with a depression (dims. 4m x 10m) opening towards the stream. The mound material is composed of fire-cracked blacked stones. There are a number of trees growing on the mound. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 28 March 2017
