Architectural fragment in Kill (ballindoon Par.)

Architectural fragment

What is recorded here

Kill fragment, County Galway: a twenty-five-centimetre stone chip carrying a robed figure whose head is gone. It surfaced during renovations at Errislannan Manor, not from a museum case or a displayed altar. Seventy paces west, a medieval church keeps its own silence; the fragment may belong there, waiting for the lost top to be imagined.
This broken architectural fragment (H c. 0.25m) was found during renovations of Errislannan Manor (pers. comm. T. Robinson). It bears a robed figure carved in relief but missing its head. The fragment may be associated with the nearby medieval church (GA035-048001-), c. 170m to the WSW. Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 17 April 2023
