Drinking Well marked the first drinking water supply for the town in 1899, standing closer to the north west corner of Duiske Abbey than later memory suggests. Bronze or stone no longer matters; the jar at its base and the line of thirsty people do. It turned a quiet abbey edge into a public meeting place where children, horses and travellers all drank from the same cold source.
