Mnemo refused to leave the woman behind. They walked out of the chamber with the door sealed above them, two shadows stretched long on stone. The woman carried no lamp, but she pointed at a gap in the rock no wider than a knife. Mnemo followed her into the dark, trusting the shape of her hand more than the light they had lost.
