Children's burial ground in Kilcoke

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Kilcoke children's graveyard on Church Hill in County Laois has buried unbaptized children for generations beside the vanished church of St. Coca. Rough uninscribed stones mark little lives the formal church would not claim, while the hill holds their names in absence. To walk there is to hear how much love and fear can fit inside a single buried child.
Unlocated childrens burial ground within townland , described by Carrigan as 'The church (LA022-049001-) of Kilcoke stood within the precincts of a small graveyard (LA022-049002-) on the 'Church Hill' of Kilcoke. It has long been obliterated. The graveyard is still used, but only for the interment of unbaptized children. There are some rough uninscribed head stones. The church was dedicated to, and received its name from St. Coca, Virgin, probably the same who is commemorated in the Martyrology of Donegal on June 6th' (Carrigan 1905, vol. 2, 141-2).
