Indicated

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated is a vanished fairy fort on a Cork hill, remembered only through a grave field and lost church. It is not a visible ruin but a shape the land still carries, waiting for someone to stop treating it as empty.
On top of a hill. Landowner remembers "small fort" on site. According to Ó Riordain (1932, 18), an old church (CO096-053002-) was 'on a high site in this townland'; field known as 'The Graveyard Field'. No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
