Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Inch

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Inch holds a vanished ringfort called Ard Lios, now buried beneath an ordinary field. Power wrote in 1940 that no trace remained, transforming ancient defence into forgotten soil. The absence is sharper than ruin because even the earth stopped remembering the shape of the fort.
According to Power (1940, 104) 'Ard Lios - a field in which is now no trace of the former earthwork'. Exact location not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
