Medieval stone house known as the manor of the Chanter, located on the N side of Newgate Lane in Limerick City. In 1577 the English crown granted a 21 year lease to 'Hercules Raynsforde, gent.; of two water mills [LI005-017074-] now decayed, in one house, called the King's mills in the city of Lymericke, upon the bank of the Shenyne [Shannon], between Cordowerr [LI005-110----] on the west side and the manor of the chantor of the church [LI005-017015-] of the city on the other side, parcel of the queen's ancient inheritance' (Nicholls 1994, 403). O'Flaherty (2010, Fig. 3, 53) recorded the following details about the Chanter's House in Limerick City: 'Chanter's house, Newgate Lane N. Manor of the chanter 1577. Chanter's house 1663'.
