House

House, indeterminate date

What is recorded here

Part of a Settlement Cluster (CL009-075005-) in level pasture immediately NW of Carran Church (CL009-075001-) and Graveyard (CL009-075002-) overlooking the Poulacarran Valley to the E. This slightly bow-shaped, rectangular house (15.3m WNW-ESE; 6.65-7m NNE-SSW) is the largest of the six houses (CL009-075006- to CL009-075011-) in the settlement and is defined by a double-faced wall (at N: Wth 2-2.7m; H 0.6-0.9m; at S: H 0.3-0.7m). The external ground level is higher than the interior which is divided into two rooms by a denuded cross-wall (H 0.1-0.3m) with a doorway (Wth 0.9m) centrally placed (E-room L 3.2m NNE-SSW). There is no obvious entrance but it is likely to have been in the S wall. A road/trackway (CL009-075013-) runs WNW-ESE immediately to the S of this house, and parallel with its SSW wall. The trackway then curves N around the SW corner of the house, and continues toward a house (CL009-075006-) c. 9m to the NW. Another house (CL009-075008-) lies c. 15m to the S.
