What is recorded here

Situated on a slight E-facing slope overlooking the Poulacarran depression. Listed as ‘Cashel’ in the SMR (1992) and the RMP (1996) as it was described by Westropp (1901, 285) as one of ‘two little cahers close to the road’. On inspection in 2007 this was found to be a subrectangular enclosure (int. dims. 29m E-W; 25.2m N-S) of modern construction defined by a drystone wall (Wth 0.5m; H 0.6-1.4m) with some spill around the base but with no facing stones. There are entrance gaps at S (Wth 1.6m) and NE (Wth 1.4m). A cleat (int. dims. 4.8m E-W; 1.4m N-S) inside the perimeter at N is largely filled with stones. A relict field wall abuts the site at ENE.
