The Down Survey (1655-6) parish map of ‘Tullohan’, in the barony of Cranagh (Hibernia Regnum, courtesy of Trinity College Dublin), depicts three small houses or ‘cabins’ to the N and W of Courtstown Castle (KK018-028001-), in the 17th-century townland of ‘Ballikieffe and Kilbalkeife’. The accompanying terrier states that there is, ‘a very spacious House at Ballykeife with small thatcht houses’ and the Countess of Ormond is listed as the proprietor in 1640 (ibid.). The spacious house probably refers to Courtstown Castle in the modern townland of Courtstown and it is likely that the associated ‘cabins’ (KK018-028003-; KK018-028004-; KK018-028005-) are also in this townland, though their precise location within the townland is unknown.
