Henge in Monktown (skreen By.)

Situated on a slight SW-facing slope down to a WNW-ESE canalised section of the River Nanny which is c. 30m to the S. The cropmark of a large oval enclosure (int. dims c. 70m WNW-ESE; c. 55m NNE-SSW) defined by a wide fosse (Wth c. 8-10m) and a possible external bank (Wth c. 8-10m) is most clearly visible on Google Earth (21/07/2021, March 2022). There could be an entrance (Wth c. 10m) in the bank at SE (max. ext. dims c. 115m WNW-ESE; c. 100m NNE-SSW) but a wide WNW-ESE scar (Wth c. 10m) run across the S part of the site. It has all the appearances of a henge and was first reported by Jean Charles Caillére.
